About us

Education Minnesota sponsors the Schools First initiative to encourage a thoughtful, productive conversation about Minnesota's public schools.

Who we are

Education Minnesota’s membership comprises 70,000 educators working together for excellence in education for all Minnesota students. We are the state's largest education organization.

The organization was formed in 1998 by the merger of the Minnesota Education Association and the Minnesota Federation of Teachers to provide a united voice for public education, leadership in education innovation, and dedication to Minnesota students and families. Our members guide Minnesota students from their preschool years through their K-12 education and on through Minnesota's community and technical colleges, the University of Minnesota, Crookston, and the University of Minnesota, Duluth.

Education Minnesota's staff serves members in 450 local unions and affiliated programs statewide, including the University Education Association, State Residential Schools Education Association, Minnesota State College Faculty, Education Minnesota Retired and the Education Minnesota Student Program.

Offices are located in Anoka, Apple Valley, Bemidji, Dilworth, Duluth, Edina, Hibbing, Mankato, Maple Grove, Mounds View, Robbinsdale, Rochester, St. Cloud, St. Paul, Willmar and Windom.

Education Minnesota is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and AFL-CIO.
